What is Kinryu ramen

Kinryu Ramen, famous for its dragon sign, is a well-known ramen shop located mainly in Namba, Osaka. Open 24 hours a day, it features a light, pork bone-based broth with thin straight noodles.

As one of Namba’s iconic ramen spots, it offers a self-service style where customers can add free toppings like kimchi to customize the flavor to their liking.

Location

Kinryu Ramen has multiple locations in the Namba area, making it convenient and easily accessible from the popular tourist spots. Among these, Kinryu Ramen Dotombori is especially popular with international visitors, but it is always crowded.

Please find kinryu ramen near you below.

Operation hours

Most Kinryu Ramen locations are open 24 hours (except for the Kinryu Ramen Ebisubashi branch). Whether you’re hungry for lunch, dinner, or a late-night snack, you can enjoy ramen anytime, which is convenient for travelers.

Menu

The menu offers only two choices: ramen and chashu (pork) ramen. Keep in mind that they generally only accept cash.

To order, first purchase a meal ticket from the vending machine, then hand it to the staff once you’re seated.

Reservation

Kinryu Ramen does not accept reservations. The Dotombori branch, which is popular among travelers, often has long lines. It’s recommended to avoid peak times during lunch and dinner to have a smoother experience.

Honest reviews

I visited Kinryu Ramen Midosuji to provide an honest review from a traveler’s perspective, covering the taste, traveler-friendliness, pricing, and overall experience.

Use this guide to help plan your visit to Kinryu Ramen Midosuji, one of Osaka’s most popular destinations for authentic ramen.

Traveler-friendly

Kinryu Ramen is a popular spot for many travelers. The staff are accustomed to serving international visitors, and there were English-speaking staff members as well. While there is no English menu, with only two options available, it should be easy to order if you decide in advance which ramen you want.

However, the Kinryu Ramen Midosuji branch has a standing-only dining style, which may not be ideal for families with small children.

Food review

This time, I ordered a Ramen. Let’s dive into the true essence of Osaka’s beloved ramen.

Ramen: 800 JPY (5.68 USD)

The ramen arrived in less than a minute after ordering. With just one sip of the rich pork bone broth, the deep umami flavor fills your mouth. The combination of the rich soup and the light chashu is excellent. While simple, the ramen’s flavor balance is perfect and refined.

On the table, you’ll find kimchi, garlic chives, and garlic, all available for free, allowing you to add as much as you like. The simple ramen is delicious on its own, but these toppings take the flavor to the next level. Personally, I recommend eating half of the ramen first and then adding a generous amount of all the toppings for the best experience.

Price

This time, the bill was 800 JPY (5.68 USD). For a bowl of ramen with unlimited toppings, 800 yen is a great deal. With only two menu options, the other being Chashu Ramen for 1,100 yen, you can enjoy delicious ramen at a reasonable price. It’s a budget-friendly spot for sure.

Overall evaluation

Kinryu Ramen is one of Namba’s iconic and popular ramen spots in Osaka. It attracts many international travelers who are satisfied with its refined pork bone ramen. Another highlight is the ability to customize the flavor with free toppings, allowing you to create your perfect bowl.

Since it’s open 24 hours, you can visit for lunch, dinner, or even a late-night snack. The prices are affordable, making it a budget-friendly choice, no matter how many times you visit.

However, note that the Midosuji branch has a standing-only dining style, which may not be ideal for families with small children.
