Honest review

I went to 298 (Nikuya) Shinsaibashi to provide honest reviews from a traveler’s perspective, covering aspects such as taste, whether it’s traveler-friendly, price, and more.

Use this guide when considering a visit to 298 (Nikuya) Shinsaibashi.

Traveler friendly

At 298 (Nikuya) Shinsaibashi, more than 70% of the customers are travelers from abroad. The menu and notices are available in English, and some staff members can speak English as well, making it a very traveler-friendly spot.

Food review

This time, I ordered the recommended 1,480 JPY (10.25 USD) course (with a 100-min limit). I’ll provide an honest review for travelers.

This course includes beef, pork, chicken, sausages, and tsukune (chicken meatballs). During my visit, it also featured several limited-time menu items, making for a varied and extensive selection.

You can enjoy a BBQ-style experience at your own table, grilling the meat over a charcoal brazier called a shichirin. Watching the meat sizzle right in front of you is incredibly exciting.

The taste of the meat is not surprising—neither bad nor particularly outstanding. Grilling over charcoal gives it good flavor and appearance, but the beef and pork are quite fatty, and I found myself getting tired of the taste after just 10 minutes. Personally, I didn’t feel the full 100 minutes were necessary.

I was too full to try them, but curry, rice, kimchi, and other side dishes are also included in the all-you-can-eat option. It’s a great choice for those who want to enjoy a variety of foods.

Price

The total bill was 1,480 JPY (10.25 USD). For an all-you-can-eat experience, this price is one of the cheapest in Japan. Although I didn’t order it, they also offer a 1,000 JPY (6.92 USD) all-you-can-eat course, which is incredibly affordable.

In Shinsaibashi, where prices tend to be higher due to the many tourists, 298 (Nikuya) stands out for its exceptional value. It’s a great choice for those looking to enjoy yakiniku at a budget-friendly price.

Overall evaluation

298 (Nikuya) Shinsaibashi is a restaurant that focuses on all-you-can-eat menus, offering meat at spuriously low prices. The variety of meats available, along with several side dishes, ensures a satisfying experience.

However, due to the low prices, the meat quality doesn’t seem particularly high. The beef and pork are quite fatty, and the taste can become repetitive as you continue eating.

For those in Shinsaibashi looking to fill up on yakiniku at an affordable price, this is a recommended spot.

The recommendation score : 6.5 out of 10
